    Description

Reuben Haley, one of the best glass designers in the country at the time, designed this vintage Catalonian glass vase for the Phoenix Glass Co. The Catalonian pattern was advertised as the "Glass of Old Spain". Haley created this design by molding it in clay first then producing it in glass. The handblown frosted sea green vessel is of triangular body shape with horizontal rings that vary in size and spacing. The wide circular flared top is not perfectly round giving it that handmade look. Various sized bubbles typical of handblown glass are present throughout the vase. The bottom has a large pontil mark where the blow tube was removed from the vase.
This vase has an Art Deco appeal, which appears to have been influence of Lalique and many other early pieces produced by this company. The vessel shape and glass design is attributed to Phoenix/Consolidated and Haley. The vase measures 6 3/16 inches tall with a 7 3/4 inch diameter at top. The vase has a thick heavy glass wall. The opening up top measures 4 1/8
    inches in diameter.
This piece is in very good vintage condition with minor wear. Please see photos for condition and below for more measurements.
Phoenix Glass Co. is located in Monaca, PA. Phoenix began production of art glass in 1932 when 45 to 50 molds from the Consolidated Glass Co. were moved to Phoenix and used until early 1936. This occurred because Consolidated Glass Co. had been forced to shut down due to the Great Depression.
